If it's Broken...New ISDP record!!!!
01 Mar 2013
Very very exciting times....brand new album from ice, sea, dead people out on lost toys on April 22nd: if it's broken break it more. They have described it as 'melodic'. This is basically not true. But what is true is that I've had a copy for about four months and it's totally amazing. I was a little nervous, being so fond of the first one, and suspecting that the band had mutated, but it's grown into something that might be best described as sublime... taster below....
big tour to promote this, and rightly so:
15th March – Camden – The Lock Tavern (Free Entry) 23rd March – Bristol – The Motorcycle Showrooms 28th March – Southampton – Avondale House 29th March – Brighton – Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar 31st March – Bedford – The Bear (Free Entry) 1st April – London – The Old Blue Last (Free Entry) 2nd April – Leeds – The Packhorse 3rd April – Glasgow – TBA 5th April – France, Paris – TBC 6th April – Netherlands, Groningen – Antillenstraat 9A 7th April – Netherlands, Amsterdam – Vondelbunker 9th April – Germany, Hannover – Café Glocksee 10th April – Austria, Graz – Sub Graz 11th April – Switzerland, Zurich – TBC 12th April – France, Bordeaux – Le Saint Ex 13th April – France, Melle – Le Café Du Boulevard
See you at one, or maybe all of these.
Johnny Parry pledge music
25 Jan 2013
Johnny Parry has announced he is attemping to raise the funds to record CONCERTO MAGNIFICENT: AN ANTHOLOGY OF ALL THINGS a work for a large community choir and orchestra based in his home town of Bedford, through Pledge Music
See below for a letter from Johnny...
Hello, I am so excited that with your help we may be able to make a recording of my piece…CONCERTO MAGNIFICENT: AN ANTHOLOGY OF ALL THINGS , for Choir and Orchestra.
This piece was commissioned by Bedford Creative Arts, who gave me a blank canvas to compose and perform a new piece of music. Being a community arts charity we started to discuss ways of getting people involved in the project. However this sentiment quickly swapped from a practicality to being the very core of the work… ‘getting people involved’.
Could music be written by hundreds of people? This unashamedly sentimental approach became part of the work itself.
The seven movements deal with the universal themes of Love, Life, Death and Childhood. Irresolvable topics due to their grandeur all expressed through the disparate donations we collected from the public. Sentences that uniquely related to them, from fundamental facts to something more lyrical or abstract.
With so many voices contributing to the work I felt it also had to be performed by many voices, so we set up a choir. We welcomed everyone regardless of experience and built our big-hearted army, 50 singers strong with soloist and choir-mistress Donna Lennard at the helm.
Joined by my band, The Johnny Parry Chamber Orchestra, we took to the stage of Bedford Corn Exchange to complete the commission. With 80 musicians working incredibly hard it became an extraordinary evening complete with a rapturous standing ovation.
Now the the recording; that’s where you come in. It will be an epic undertaking but I can’t wait for the challenge. 5% of all pledges go to the BCA, the charity that made this project happen.
It seems perfect to use pledge music as this work is all about getting people involved and what that can achieve. EVERYONE who pledges will be credited on the inlay and have the options of all the special exclusives found here. You will also have an unusual insight into the making of the album with updates of the production.

New Johnny Parry Album Out Now!
17 Apr 2012
This week sees the release of the 'sister' album to More Love and Death. Titled after the reworked "Fields and Birds and Things", this is a complete re-imagining: the album transported to a parallel universe where some lyrics and melodies remain, but what was minor becomes major, old favourites occupy disco landscapes, characters from the previous album have mutated and transformed to stride forth anew, and uncanny moments of resemblance and flamboyant arrangements pervade every turn.
The album had gained positive reviews from Mojo, the Word, Sunday Express, Monocle, the 405, amongst others but it is those who have been following the evolution of Johnny's music from 'trio' to 'chamber orchestra' that this record will really delight. It's another portal into the complex and melodramatic world of the Johnny Parry Chamber Orchestra, with some of the best arrangements to date (Keep Kicking and Screaming, rebuild it Piece by piece) and a delicate, ambiguous balance between the dark and light, with an even greater sense of performativity than any of the previous albums, and finding Johnny in full voice and opening up many possibilities for further adventures.
Available through itunes, spotify, amazon etc and distributed to all good independant record shops through Cargo UK.

A Message from Ricky Leach Regarding the End of the World
20 Oct 2011
My poor lost soul,
As you will know doubt be aware, the televangelist Harold Camping's postponed prediction of the rapture, God's final judgement, will be occurring at some point today. To celebrate the fact the 5-track EP Yonic Totem will be available to download for free all day today. What better way to spend your final moments on this mortal coil!
This is also the first time the album has been available as high quality mp3s, and also includes a document of hypertext lyrics and liner notes, plus pictures of the physical artwork made from prettily block-printed old gramophone record sleeves.
Assuming we survive the judgement, or that all infrastructures are intact when everything goes all amazing and heavenly, then the record will be available to download in future through itunes, emusic, spotify and amazon, however, for this we will charge you. Yonic Totem has so far only been available in limited-edition handmade physical copies. However, what you won't get in any virtual copies of the album, apart from a nice-looking tangible commodity, will be a cover of Scott Walker's The Seventh Seal. That's only available on the physical CD version through the online Lost Toys store. You can buy that today too, and of course we at Lost Toys would appreciate a few fivers to vainly plead our maker's mercy with, like the mammon-drenched heathens we have become.
LTR Adds: Please Note this album is available free for 24 hours only. should the end of the world not occur today, we'll remove the link and you'll be able to buy the physical copy from the Lost Toys shop, or download the album from Monday 7th November. See you in hell.

Johnny Parry "Fields and Birds and Things" out now
The album review Mojo magazine:
As heard on 6music Grubby Mitts New single To a Friend's House is out now, through Lost Toys, and distributed by Cargo. Also available on itunes and spotify.
"The Grubby Mitts want to take you on a thoughtscursion, their song the refrain. There is something oddly moving and hypnotic about it. Perhaps it is the sentiment; ambling round to someone else’s house, the promise of homecooked vittles, only a churl could object." (Drowned in Sound)
"Deceptively simple but utterly uplifting: an inspiring battle-hymn of honest friendship" (The Folly of Youth)
"It's quirky, affectionate, affecting and sounds like The Polyphonic Spree if they'd been brought up in a council house in Croyden."(the Devil Has the Best Tuna)
